| Ballinderry coast into county decider 02/09/00 |
Ahead 1-10 to 0-4 at half-time, Ballinderry coasted into the senior championship final despite a spirited display by the Davitts in the second half.Indeed, had Eamon Turner got a goal, instead of a point, five minutes from the interval Swatragh might have been better placed to mount a second half challenge.
Swatragh got a second penalty three minutes into the second half, Seanie McGuckin converting easily.
Ballinderry’s Adrian McGuckin saw his spot kick strike the bar and rebound to safety.
However the Ballinderry player had found the net eight minutes from the break, to go with Gilligan’s six first half points as the Shamrocks blitzed Davitts with fast, incisive and cohesive play.
Neither Tohill nor McAtamney made any impact at midfield, with Gilligan and Muldoon superb on the flanks in support of Convery and McOscar.
Only Seanie McGuckin, who finished with 1-6, showed any sharpness up front as Kevin McGuckin, Niall McCusker and Paul Wilson defended superbly.
Just before half-time Ballinderry manager Damien Barton was red-carded by the referee after his third incursion on to the field. In the second half former player Terence McGuckin took over the managerial duties, Barton now outside the perimeter fence.
