Club of the year winners announced

10 January 2002

The GAA have announced the 32 AIB County Club winners for 2001. These are the clubs selected as the best example of how to run a GAA unit, with the emphasis on off field activities.
Each county winner goes forward to contest the provincial finals and also the ultimate title of AIB GAA Club of the Year 2001. Both the four provincial winners and the overall winner will be announced at the function in Croke Park on February 4th. Each of the provincial winners will receive a €1270 development grant, while the overall winner will receive a €6,350 grant.

GAA President Sean McCague noted the vital role played by clubs in the development of the GAA, and also in the development of local communities all over Ireland. He said that the scheme had been developed to give due recognition to that role and the continuing importance of the club.

Speaking about the awards scheme, Mr. Eugene Sheehy, Managing Director, AIB said, “AIB has a close involvement with the GAA and the focus has always been on the clubs and the development of the sport at local level. The Club of the Year Awards encourages club development through coaching programmes and most importantly their participation in the community.”
