On Saturday night, 1st of December will mark the switching on of the Ballinderry GFC’s floodlights when an All-Star selection sponsored by PVS/Loughshore Autos will play the home side in a specially arranged match to help raise money to buy defibrillators in the area.
Included in the All-Star selection will be former Tyrone All-Star Brian McGuigan, and he will lead out the side on the occasion. The Ardboe player is continuing his comeback after an eye injury and double leg-break which has seen him miss most of Tyrone’s last two inter-county football seasons.
The All-Star side will include many of the current and past stars of the inter-county scene in Ulster such as Peter Canavan and Fay Devlin of Tyrone; Mickey Linden of Down, Owen Mulligan (Tyrone), Sean Marty Lockhart (Derry), Martin McGrath (Fermanagh), Brian Roper and Rory Kavanagh (Donegal) and Enda McNulty (Armagh).
The game will commence at 7.30 p.m. and former GAA President Peter Quinn will perform the switching-on ceremony. An added attraction will be a special commentary of the game by popular GAA pundits of recent seasons - Martin McHugh (Donegal) and Bernard Flynn (Meath).
Hopefully, there will be a big turn-out for this special occasion in the life of the Ballinderry club - one of the top club sides in the country in recent seasons. The proceeds of the occasion are going to a very worthy cause.
