Senior League

We have played two league games in the last week firstly last Wednesday night we travelled to Banagher for our second league game of the season and for the second game in a row came out on top in a tight game. We started brightly and scored the first two points through Raymond Wilkinson and James Bateson. However Banagher then managed to gain control around the middle and hit four unanswered points to hold a two point lead. Banagher held the lead for the remainder of the half, we managed to stay in touch with points from Conleith Gilhgan (2 frees) and Shane Rocks to leave us trailing by two points at half time.
Half Time: Banagher 0-7 Ballinderry 0-5

The second half followed the same pattern as the first and Banagher held the lead for long period, and looked as though they may hold on for the victory until we broke up the field and substitute Darren McGeehan unselfishly placed James Bate-son in for a goal which changed the whole complexion of the game. Further scores from Conleith Gilligan (0-3, 2f) and Shane Rocks (0-2) meant that we had secured our second league victory.

Final Score: Banagher 0-10 Ballinderry 1-10

Team & Scorers: M.Conlan, D.Bell, N.McCusker, M.Bell, C.Nevin, B.Conway, M.McIvor, Kevin ‘Moss’ McGuckin, D.Conway, R.Wilkinson (0-1), C.Gilligan (0-5,3f), S.Rocks (0-3), J.Bateson (1-1), B.McGuckin, F.Muldoon. Subs Used: R.Devlin, D.McGeehan, D.Bateson, R.McGuckin & A.Heron.
Our second league game of the week came against our neighbours the Loup, playing with a strong wind in the first half we struggled to best use the conditions and the game was tight for most of the first half. We even had the misfortune to miss a penalty, when Raymond Wilkinson pulled his shot wide, but we managed to assert our authority in the closing stages of the half to take a four point lead at the break with our scores coming from Conleith Gilligan (0-4, 3f), Enda Muldoon (0-2), Darren McGeehan (0-1) and Raymond Wilkinson (0-1)
Half time: Ballinderry 0-8 Loup 0-4

We came out in the second half expecting the Loup to use the wind to put on the pressure but this never really happened and we controlled most of the second half and points from James Bateson, Colin Devlin and Conleith Gilligan stretched our lead further, Loup only managing two pointed frees in response. The result was put beyond doubt when Ryan McGeehan got on the end of a good move to place the ball under the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the games only goal. This gave us a nine point lead which we held to the finish to record our third league win.

Final Score: Ballinderry 1-12 Loup 0-6

Minor League
Our minors had a tough game last Tuesday night when Magherafelt were the visitors to Shamrock Park. Magherafelt were the better team in the first half and deservedly held the lead at half time by three points, with our points coming from Gavin McGeehan (0-4,If) and Emmett McGeehan (0-1).
Half time: Ballinderry 0-5 Magherafelt 1-5
We came out more determined in the second half and began to gain more possession around the middle of the park and our backs started to get on top on the Magherafelt forward line. We managed to restrict Magherafelt to only two second half points, as we began to put the pressure on our visitors. Gavin McGeehan hit eight second half points to turn the game completely in our favour and further points from Fintan Bell and Dermot McGuckin meant we held on for a comfortable five point victory.
Final Score: Ballinderry 0-15 Magherafelt 1-7.
Scorers: Gavin McGeehan (0-12, 3f), Emmett McGeehan, Fintan Bell & Dermot McGuckin (0-1 each)
