The Ballinderry minor footballers completed the first leg of a memorable double for the club at Celtic Park last Sunday when they defeated Foreglen by 2-12 to 1-8 in their championship decider.
And having also won the under 16 title at the Derry City venue recently, there is no doubt that Shamrocks are the dominant club in the county at the present.
Their minors recovered from the concession of a goal in the opening seconds to overpower their smaller Foreglen opponents. Ballinderry’s top scorer was Fintan Bell, who helped himself to 1-2. The highly-promising corner forward was also man of the match in the under 16 final.
Ballinderry led by 2-6 to 1-3 at half-time and despite not playing as well in the second half, ran out comfortable winners.
Meanwhile, Lavey overcame the loss of star forward Liam Murphy through suspension to beat Desertmartin by 1-9 to 1-7 in the minor ’B’ football championship decider last weekend.
